Hi! My name is Janie Yoon, a highschool student from Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio, and a costume designer at heart.

I've loved sketching and making clothes for as long as I can remember. It started as a kid with doodles long before I knew it could be a real craft. That love led me to take a costume design class, and what began as a slight interest became love.

 

Along the way, I found a community of people who share the same obsession with fabric, character, and detail, and that sense of friendship and collaboration is part of why I love this work so much.

 

For me, costume design is storytelling you can touch. Every stitch, silhouette, and color choice is a chance to turn an actor into a character, to help an audience believe in someone before they even speak a line. There's something magical about watching a costume transform a performer, whether it's for a school play, a musical, or a dance performance.
